Dreamy Surf Parks Opening Soon
The number of wave pools around the world is rising rapidly. Bet there's one near you.
Surfing is now for everyone, anywhere. 21 surf parks are on the horizon.
What makes surf parks so magical is not only that you can ride waves away from the beach, but also that you can be transported to an oasis in a place that has no business feeling like a tropical paradise. In the next 3 years we will have 25% more surf parks in the world than we do today. Wild!
Here’s the list of surf parks opening soon taken from Surf Park DB on August 5th, 2024. The database gets updated regularly so it is possible that by the time you read this some of the parks are already open!
Check out Surf Park DB for the most up to date info on all surf parks across the world. We’ve grouped them by region below and gave you more info for the ones opening imminently.
USA
Crest Surf Club, Long Island, New York
Opening 2024
Tech: Premier Surf System
Cost: $$$
It’s a freaking wave pool just outside of New York city. Long Island is a sweet place to surf already. Some of the world’s best long boarders grew up surfing there and other spots in New York. In addition to great waves, it’s beautiful, easy to get around by train on the Long Island Railroad, and has amazing seafood. In this part of the U.S. waves are not consistent all year round, so the addition of a surf park in New York will be a game changer for all the New England surfers.
By the way, you may be thinking, isn’t there already a surf park in New York? Nope. Skudin does advertise itself that way and to be fair it is very close to New York but it is truly in New Jersey.
Revel Surf, Mesa, Arizona
Opening 2024
Tech: Swell MFG and UNIT
Cost: $$
Another surf park is coming to Arizona which is remarkable because it is a state known for its breathtaking deserts. Revel Surf is planned to be the centerpiece of a mini resort that will have a hotel, restaurants, and shops. They’ll have both Swell MFG and UNIT surf on site so you can ride traveling waves like you would in the ocean or standing waves like you might in a river.
Sapphire Bay Surf Village, Rowlett, Texas
Opening 2025
Tech: Surf Loch
Cost: $$
Sapphire Bay will be attempting to bring the beach to a lake. Their going with a tropical theme, swim up bar, and surf pool making 7 foot waves. Stay tuned to Surf Park DB for the latest updates.
Atlantic Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Opening 2025
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
Atlantic Park is backed by Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams. The surf park in Virginia will be closer to the Ocean than any other in the world. The idea is when the waves go flat on the beach just walk across the boardwalk and jump in the pool.
Three Bridges, Salem, Utah
Opening 2026
Tech: UNIT
Cost: N/A
Three Bridges is a private, residential resort that will include a UNIT standing wave. We almost didn’t include it on this list because the surf feature is more of an afterthought, but in case you live in Utah or want to, it may be interesting for you!
DSRT Surf, Palm Desert, California
Opening 2026
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
HTX Surf, Houston, Texas
Opening 2026
Tech: Endless Surf
Cost: $$
Brazil
Surf Center, Curitiba, Brazil
Opening 2024
Tech: Their own
Cost: $$$
The cool thing is that it is an indoor traveling wave. The uncool thing is the cost. $10k + $2400 each year. No joke. Nonetheless it is the most affordable wave pool in Brazil. Sigh. The others are only available to home owners on the property whereas Surf Center is open to anyone who has the cash and gets in fast enough. It’s worth considering splitting the cost with friends. But then again Curitiba isn’t a far drive from the beach…
Gabriel Medina Performance Surf Club, N/A, Brazil
Opening 2025
Tech: Endless Surf
Cost: N/A
We don’t have much info on this one yet except that Medina is spearheading the work. Surf parks are notorious for being very secretive and putting NDAs in place quickly. We don’t mind though—it’s just that much more exciting.
São Paulo Surf Club, São Paulo, Brazil
Opening 2025
Tech: PerfectSwell
Cost: $
From the team that brought you Boa Vista Surf Village, introducing an exclusive surf club in São Paulo, Brazil. It is members only and you need that coin to join.
Australia
Surf Lakes, Yeppoon, Australia
Opening 2025
Tech: Their own
Cost: $$$
Groms and vets alike are frothing. Translation: We can’t wait for Surf Lakes to open! Their iconic wave generating technology creates concentric circles of traveling waves. The first version has a beautiful steampunk design but they are in the process of updating it to a white box which is a bit sad. Nonetheless it looks like the waves at Surf Lakes will be unforgettable.
Perth Surf Park, Perth, Australia
Opening 2026
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
Auckland Surf Park, Auckland, Australia
Opening 2027
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
Europe & UK
Lost Shore Surf Resort, Edinburgh, Scotland
Opening 2024
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
At this point Wavegarden is well known for their surf parks being quite good. They are the leader in the industry sitting at #2 most used wave generation technology in the world, not counting the Ocean. (#1 is Citywave but they only produce standing waves!) Given this, Lost Shore is destined to be a fun spot for inland surfing. Add it to your list when traveling to the UK.
O2 SURFTOWN MUC, Munich, Germany
Opening 2024
Tech: Endless Surf
Cost: $$
It looks dope. The best part of O2 SURFTOWN is you can start booking now. The surf park in Munich is scheduled to open August 10th, 2024. They are open all year round and have created an accessible space that accommodates disabilities. Also, we really liked their session level recommender quiz on their website.
Surf Poel, Hague, Netherlands
Opening 2024
Tech: 24/7 Waves
Cost: $
We love a family friendly, indoor wave pool. That’s what Surf Poel is giving. While other surf parks are beyond your wildest dreams, Surf Poel literally looks like someone’s dream come true. No shade, it’s not worth traveling for but they should still be proud of pulling it off.
Emerge Surf, Birmingham, England
Opening 2025
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
Havelwelle, Potsdam, Germany
Opening 2025
Tech: UNIT
Cost: $
Havelwelle, not to be confused with Hasewelle, is a surf park and glamping experience all in one. They want to be a space for Olympic athletes to train but with a UNIT pool as their only surf experience it’s unclear how useful that will be. Unless we can expect to see standing waves in the Olympics!
Others
Surf Abu Dhabi, Hudayriyat Island, United Arab Emirates
Opening 2024
Tech: Kelly Slater Wave Co
Cost: (We are guessing it will be similar to Lemoore.)
It’s supposed to be the biggest man-made wave ever featuring 8 foot waves that extend 100 yards. Though it was scheduled to be open to the public already, we are hopeful it will open soon because it has already been tested by the top surfers in the world including Caroline Marks and Gabe Medina. Generally speaking the culture in UAE is conservative particularly for women. Good idea to do a little research and ask some friends about it before you head there!
SRF Park TLV, Tel Aviv, Israel
Opening 2025
Tech: Wavegarden Cove
Cost: $$
It goes without saying, Israel is a rough part of the world to be in right now. Hopeful that peace will come to Israel and Palestine before we know it.
Qiddiya, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Opening 2026
Tech: Water Technology Inc.
Cost: N/A
When you think of Qiddiya you should think Disney World. It has tons of attractions with a surf park contained inside of a larger water park.
That’s it for the upcoming parks! If you’ve been following surf parks you may be thinking we are missing a couple but we actually left off quite a few parks that were scheduled to open but have had no updates since their announcement or were officially canceled. This included Fjord Waves, Honokea Surf Village, Leander Springs, Orlando Surf Park, PerfectSwell Edgewater and Wavelandes Atlantic.
